Developing strong, healthy, relationships with friends, family, and co-workers requires personal growth and development, which are vital components to each of Pyxis' offerings.

 

Utilizing an innovative educational plan while collaborating with a variety of community partners, Pyxis' goal is for all participants to become equipped to lead rewarding, enriched lives.

 

Our focus is to preserve, promote, and support healthy links to the participant's family, friends, job, school, and community with unique and innovative elements to service.

 

We are committed to quality and individualized services to meet the needs of all stakeholders.

 

Currently in Virginia, the company provides services to change the lives of at-risk youth participating in our programs. We provide these services to youth involved with juvenile justices, social service, and mental health agencies through agency case manager referrals. We provide services that are CSA and 294 funding approved.

 

Primary Services Provided:

 

Pre-vocational Job Readiness Training (JRT)

JRT is a pre-vocational employment training aimed at helping youth overcome barriers to employment and increasing pro-social skills. Services include:

  • Supervised group work experience training
  • Paid work experience; youth receive a stipend
  • Transportation to and from the work site
  • Life Skill Building sessions/Conflict resolution
  • Behavioral goals evaluated daily
  • Community-based work assessments
  • Monthly documentation and progress notes

Youth Employment Strategies (YES) Program

YES is an employment program designed to help youth overcome barriers to employment, develop independent living skills, and provide an opportunity for youth to secure competitive employment. Program features include all of the JRT program components, PLUS:

  • Independent work experience
  • Job placement and job coaching activities
  • Independent Living curriculum
  • Job placement and/or assistance with transition to enhanced career opportunities:
    • Apprenticeships
    • Further educational opportunities

Mentoring Services

The focus of all mentoring is the development of communication and a positive relationship between a mentor and the young person. General mentoring is designed to provide a positive role model in the development of appropriate behavior, social interaction, and life skills. Trained adult mentors meet on a regular basis with the youth to build a positive relationship, while participating in community-based activities of interest to the young person.

Specialized mentoring is designed to assist the young person in activities related to successful job seeking and job keeping, as well as providing tutorial services and the positive socialization components of general mentoring.

 

Juvenile Justice
This Community Integration program provides participants with opportunities for life changing growth and development through pre-vocational and vocational job readiness training and personalized placement. These services are designed to educate, equip, engage and empower youth to overcome barriers to employment and secure competitive employment. This systematic approach provides youth opportunities to fulfill community service requirements and pay restitution.

 

Employment Support Services (ESS)

The Pyxis, Inc. ESS program is a community-based vocational and job readiness training program aimed at improving the lives of our participants by building work related and other competencies, providing specific employability skill building opportunities and creating opportunities to obtain gainful employment. ESS features PowerEdge

 

PowerEdge is an innovative, effective training curriculum designed to help individuals develop successful life and employment skills.  Interactive presentations offer interesting layered-learning. Participants are inspired to grow personally and professionally through gaining knowledge of personal value, positive attitude, positive and effective communication, goal setting, problem solving, community resources, customer service, a systematic approach to the job search including career assessment, and how to be a successful employee.
